Obamanation

A God-fearing Christian is an Obama supporter. Paul exhorts us in Romans, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, … Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.” ¬ God has placed this man in authority over us, and that providential act requires an appropriate reaction from Christians. Some Christians who think themselves rather clever, thanked God for the impending judgment, and asked that it would be swift and would cause a conservative backlash, I unfortunately fell into this way of thinking. This however is simply backward. We know that Barrack Obama has been promised as a “minister for our good” . Whether we like it or not. Expecting the sudden downfall of our nation is the sort of dependence on horses and chariots that we are strictly warned against. Do I trust Obama’s policies, character, or affiliations? No, no more than we ought trust in tanks. I do, however, trust that he cannot thwart God’s plans, and that God has made all things to work together for the good of those that love Him . A pro Obama stance does not make one pro abortion, or pro Gay marriage. On the contrary, we ought to pray that God would preserve our nation from such evils and direct our president away from them. The appropriate Christian response to our president elect is thank God and ask his blessing on our new leader.

Nice, swede. Way to leave the man a way out!

Cool blog Ty! Just now stumbled upon it. You should post that picture that apparently made the rounds on facebook Tuesday night.

Well said Ty. This has been the conversation in our house lately. Difficult as it may seem, this is our call.

This is very encouraging. I had been very worried over the election, but you have avery good point. Nothing happens unless God ordains it.

I like the middle part. It’s certainly true that Obama cannot thwart God’s plans. I find the beginning and the ending to be… problematic.

When our forefathers overthrew the authority of the British Crown in this land and seceded from the Kingdom of Great Britain, they did so in the name of the people. Sovereign authority in America is located in “the people of the United States.” Obama was not elected to be a king or an emperor, and certainly not “our leader” -– a fascist term unworthy of free men -- but the temporary chief executive of the central government in a limited federal republic. His powers are delegated to him by the sovereign -– the people of the states -– and are strictly enumerated in the Constitution which grants and defines those powers. Everything he does that is outside or against that document is simply an act of brigandry; of no more authority than if your neighbor came into your house waving a gun and demanding money for his pet projects.

Your pastor is also "a minister for your good". But what should you or I do when our pastor turns bad, and begins teaching lies, perverting justice, abusing the sacraments and persecuting the saints? Do we "thank God and ask his blessing on our leader"? Well, we should certainly bear his abuses patiently, but at the same time we ought to begin lawful proceedings to have him reined in or removed from office. Christianity is not a masochistic cult.

When Obama begins to rule in a lawless manner, as he will almost certainly do within hours of his inauguration, good Christians and good Americans ought to begin demanding his impeachment and removal from office. That's the lawful way to protect the innocent from his depredations.

It's also the kindest thing we can do for Obama, and the best way to support him. As long as he resists the authority he brings judgment on himself. For his own sake, we should stop him.

Amen Steven St.Jean! Too many Christians use their 'religion' as an excuse to stick their heads in the sand. There is no room in Christianity for a pacifist attitude. Just standing by and saying prayers for our carnal and immoral 'leaders', and doing nothing else besides is how this country has become so morally bankrupt. I am by no means saying that we should not pray for Obama, because we absolutely should, but praying for him and condoning the things he stands for are two different things.
Yes God will use Obama's election to president to carry out his will, but that does not mean that we as Christians should compromise our beliefs, or let our stance on certain issues become lax, because he has been voted into office. We are charged by God with the responsibility of weighing and measuring our potential 'leaders' with God's word, to discern the intent of their heart. Barrack Obama definitely does NOT measure up. In fact he does not even come close, so how could a professing Christian, in good conscience, vote for him?

Ashley, I certainly did not vote for him, and until he was elected I was radically opposed to all things Obama. My point is that too many Christians have already decided that he is a bad leader, when he has lead nothing yet. My faith is not in Obama, and he has my allegiance only because God put the man in a position where He expects that I give it. I don't expect any great things from Barrack, but I expect great things from God, and I have certainly not compromised my beliefs simply because I am joyfully submitting to god's providence.

To Mr. St. Jean, first I am sorry for the delayed response. Secondly, I don't believe that Barrack Obama is a constitutionally elected president by the people, I think he is a divinely appointed ruler. If sovereign authority in this nation is found in the people, then I am truly terrified, but fortunately it is not.
Moreover when Christ told us to give to Caesar what is Caesar, it was certainly to a people governed by Brigands. and yet...
Finally, I think a stricter obedience to the Constitution of this country would save us from many of our woes, but I think it is ultimately a document used by men as an excuse to revolt against the divinely appointed authority of our government, no more binding (apparently) than the documentation that claimed America as an English colony.
